Mary Annhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11216184593960226197noreply@blogger.comBlogger152125tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6241039136403190561.post-22662477373786871452019-06-22T11:30:00.000-07:002019-06-22T11:30:47.775-07:00I am back at doing them myself again ! I went to two pretty good and expensive salons in my city for about a year and still experienced lifting , which led to me removing the nails and getting them done almost every week . At my last visit I found green fungus on my nails !!! I decided to stop going to the salon and start doing them my self again. First before anything I got rid of the fungus by soaking my nails in Apple Cider Vinegar for about five minutes every night and with in two weeks the fungus was gone . My nails were still in pretty bad shape , very thin and I still hardly had a strong nail bed to apply polish to.

I resorted to using glue ons , but did not like how fake and thin they looked. While on Facebook I discovered "Quick Dip" nails and thought I found my dream product. The dip nails came out nice but they would never hold up , they would lift and I could never get them smooth next to my cuticle . I used dip nails for quite a while , however they nails would not last for more than a week , by week two I had lifting . I found myself once again removing the whole set of nails which of course ruins your nails . So I gave up on the quick dip and decided to go back to gel , I still have my UV light and it still works.

Of course during this decision of went on Utube to see if there were any new tutorials . I found the "Nail Hub" which was really help ful and by following the directions from the girl on there I was able to do a full sculpted set that lasted longer than a week , I even used my dip color acrylic on them . One broke , but I was able to build another one rater quickly. However I grew tired of the color and wanted to change it . I made the mistake of filing too much off and all the nails broke. I attempted tips and they broke as well . Then I resorted to full cover nails ,but those popped off . I went back to the nail hub and instead of looking at another tutorial I view a Q and A segment which was really helpful. The nail educator on said something that made sense to me , she said not everyone has the same nails . Acrylic may work for some people but not for others depending on the type of nails a person has . Someone with very thin nails or damaged nails may need a more flexible product. When you are creating a nail enhancement on nails that are really short , (think a nail bitter or broken nails) than the goal to creating a nail enhancement is to help the nail grow back to its correct shape.

I am not one to give up so easily so I tried another set with tips , I used the method I learned on the nailhub , but found I need to do at least three fully cured layers to get a strong nail. I also decided that sense I had so many layers of gel on that I would stick to polish instead . I also like to use regular nail polish because it is easier to change the colors and match them to my toes. I grow bored of the same color all the time .

Here is a picture of the nails I did , I decided to do a 4th of July theme because I am hoping that my nails last that long .

1. Pushed back my cuticles
2. Lightly filed the nail bed
3. Cleaned the nail plate with Alcohol on a nail wipe
4. Applied tips and cut them down to desired length
5. Blended nail tip with natural nail by filing lightly
6. Applied Bonder and cured for two minutes
7. Applied a base coat cure for a minute
8. Applied a thin layer of IBD builder gel to entire nail
9. Applied a ball of gel to the middle of the nail where the stress area is , pushed gel very very slightly to the cuticle area , no touching the cuticle. Then gently moving the gel to the tip of nail , trying to stay thick in the middle and then in the cuticle area and tip. Cured for three minutes and repeated twice.
10. After my third layer of gel , I wipe off the sticky layer and file lightly to shape and get ride of any imperfections. Remember only file very lightly , if you push on the file to hard you can file through the gel and cut your cuticles not fun and you end up with a bloody mess .
I'm done doing my own nails , though I found this amazing product , I can't seem to keep it on my nails , I experience a lot of lifting , and I am having trouble on fitting the tips on right . Seems everything I have done is not working . In my attempts of DIY nails I have damaged my natural nails and will now have to try to grow them out . I love the look of long nails and hopefully I can get my nails to the length I want by just trying to let them grown out naturally . It's been hard , if they don't grown than I will resort to finding a salon to get them done at . I think I have done more damage to my nails than good . In addition to now having to resort to going to a salon , I have wasted a lot of time and money . I have already started looking for some good salons and have asked for some recommendations. I just know they won't touch my nails at the shape they are in right now . I am currently using Sally Hansen Nail Miracle and have read really good reviews on it , and I am hoping it works.
I am loving this Revel nail product so much , that I purchased four more colors to try . I am wearing D177 Venus . I have it over nail tips . I find that if you put a clear color or light color on first than the color comes out more . I also discovered that it is not necessary to file so hard , all you need is to file your nails lightly and buff them and tada they are smooth , and the finish gel adds an awesome shine . In addition to doing your nails you can also put this on your toes . My nails are not a 100 % , but they look pretty decent , I think . I can't wait to add some stamps to them .
I did my nails on Memorial day again , and they came out amazing . Non of the nails broke , the nails needed to be filled and my thumb nail on my right hand was lifting . I of course picked at it and the nail came off . The nail under the acrylic was nice and health and smooth . My nails are still in the process of growing , so I added a tip to the thumb nail on my right hand and filled my other nails. This stuff is awesome it takes less time than it did when I used to do my gel nails . The gel that they supply dries fast and shinny which makes painting my nails so easy !!
I thought that making my own dip kit was pretty good , but I found a professional dip kit that is amazing !! I recently purchase a Reval Nail starter dip kit , it came with four polish bottles and once 1oz jar of colored acrylic . I purchase a light pink because I like to pain my nails , although I may eventually purchase some colored powder for the colors that I have trouble with , like creamy reds and pastels. You can add tips or put an it on your natural nails. Below are pictures of my nails after I add the acrylic to them and than painted. The whole process was so easy and fast, I went from taking about three hours to do my nails to less than an hour . I did these nails on May 11, and they are still on and have an incredible shine . I have not broken any nails at all, so far so good. If you like to do your own nails and are struggling with doing your own acrylics or gels , this product may be for you. If you have trouble painting your nails this product may also be for you too, as long as you can leave a color on your hand for about 2 to four weeks.

I was growing tired of the round shape , also one of my fingers was not shape correctly . I decided to do a new set , I usually do short nails , but this time I cut the tips first and then applied them . I thought they would be pretty short , but they came out kind of long . I didn't want to cut them and lose my shape , so I left them long. It's taken a day to get used to typing , but so far so good.

I applied the quick dip application and after I filed the nails I put IBD builder gel over them to make them smoother . Infact I think instead of using the IBD builder gel I could have just used the risen , I'll try that on the next set or fill. I am hoping that the next time I change them it will be a color change or fills.

I think I still have some more practicing to do , but so far they look pretty decent . for this set I used a gold color from Salley Hansen , called Game of Chromes , and then applied a stamp from my Konad stamping plate in special polish black pearl. The design kind of reminds me of a fiesta , with the swirls and curves .

I decided to purchase a professional stamping kit and bought a starter kit from Reval , I seen some tutorials on youtube and it looks pretty easy to use . I paid $50.00 for the kit and I can't wait until it comes in the mail.

My ring finger on my right hand broke , instead of redoing it with gel , I decided to try a new overlay . I don't know why but the gel nails were still not strong enough for me . I recently read an article in nails magazine about how Acrylic dipping is coming back . I once did these type of nails for my sisters wedding and I was impressed with them , but due to the condition of my nails they never lasted very long .

Instead of repairing my broken nail with gel , I decided to do the repair with quick dip acrylic instead. I just started with the ring finger because that was the nail that was broken .The nail came out smooth and strong , it has not broken yet :) I was so impressed with how it looked that I decided to do all my nails.

When I first did the repair it took less than 10 minutes , I actually did it while I was working and on hold on the phone . I later decided to do the rest of my nails. There are a lot of videos on YouTube to use as tutorals ,you can either purchase a kit or make your own kit . I brought a wrap kit a little while back and saved the gel and activator spray. I had also purchased a tub of Beauty Secrets acrylic powder in pink .

Items that you use are for this type of application are acrylic powder , risen or UV gel , and if you use risen an activator for the risen. You can usually get the activator if you purchase a quick dip kit or nail wrap kit or you can also use nail glue dryer . I found that you can find all of these items at Sally's Beauty Supply. I have also found that there are many kits for sale on amazon however they are about $45.00 to $100.00. I just figured I could make my own with the stuff that I had on hand.

For this set I just filed the gel nails that I had with the 180 grit side of my file . I took my nail risen and applied to my nail like nail polish . I dipped my nail in the acrylic power , brushed off any excess powder and then took my risen and applied in a slow tapping motion. In stead of applying the risin like polish , I just applied in small sections and let the risen spread onto the nail. Once the whole nail was covered I dipped in acrylic again and did the same procedure with the risen. I sprayed the activator on the nail allowed the nail to dry and once my nail was dry I filed the shape with the 180 side of my file and than filed the nail smooth with the 100 side of my nail file and than followed with a white buffing block.

After filing my nails I brushed off the nails and cleaned them , I applied my red nail polish and than took a gold polish and put it on a sponge and dabbed in on the tips of my nail creating an ombre effect. I used my clear stamper and applied white stars from my Konad stamping plate.

So far I have been impressed with quick dip nails no more have broken so far . I am hoping that these last . The best thing about this application was that they were super easy and very fast to do , also the filing was not bad. I shaved about two hours off of my usual time for doing my nails. I have even gotten compliments on these nails. I feel I still need some practice on my painting technique , but so far so good . My nails are holding up a bit , its been a couple of days. I got a lot of compliments on my Easter Egg nails , however I noticed that the design was not quite straight . I turned to my trusty internet and you tube and found that there are clear stampers . I first checked if Konad had any and they don't . Next I check Amazon and found some , purchased three of them on Saturday and got them on Sunday.

Of course I had to try them out and these things are amazing and make it so much easier to place stamps on your nails . You can see where you are putting you image on your nail. I did these pink nails with light pink flowers from one of my Konad plates. You can use these stampers with both regular nail polish or Konad special polish.

I have finally recovered from my surgery and what better way to celebrate than to do my nails. For the past three months I have been confined to my recliner because I could not move . I had to have a Hysterectomy and it was a long recovery . I could not have nails for the surgery so I had to take them off . During my recovery I did not have any energy to even try to do my nails. However during all my down time I viewed a lot of YouTube videos on how to do gel nails. Every time I did my nails they would only last for about a week. I had to find out what I was doing wrong . I came to the conclusion that I may not have been applying enough layers of gel and may have not been allowing the gel to cure properly and I have also been using the wrong nails tips . I found this You tuber Jessica Angelique, you must check her out. Her videos are awesome , informative and easy to follow . www.Jessica-Angelique.com

On to my design , I decided to do a round shape as I have notice that round nails seem to be the style this year. Because it is Easter what better design to do with round nails than an Easter Egg. I used square tips and followed the usual procedure for adding tips to your nails and shaped the nails into a round shape.

I dehydrated my nails with alcohol and added to thin coats of primer. I applied the required amount of IBD bonder and than followed with two thin coats of builder gel cured for two minutes. I went on to building up my nails . I applied a slightly thicker layer of builder gel to the middle of my nails and capped the free edge and cured for two minutes. I applied another thick layer and applied to the middle of my nail again but this time pushed some of the gel just to the cuticle and than tried to float it to the free edge of the nail and cured again for two minutes. At this point I check out the nails and you could tell that they were taking shape I applied another thick layer to the nails starting in the center and pulling the gel to the free edge and cured again for two minutes . At this point I checked out the nails again and added gel to any areas that needed it then cured for two minutes and cleaned off the dispersion layer with alcohol.

I filed the nails beginning at the cuticle area and working my way to the free edge . To file the cuticle area I used the coarse side of my nail file , although next time I think I might use my E File to may it faster . After filing the cuticle area I checked the shape of the nail and I could see the apex forming and a shape to the nail. I took the smoother side of my nail file and evened out the rest of the nail . I followed with some primer around the cuticle area and than applied a UV top coat and cured for four minutes . The top coat that I used does not need to be whipped off . I buffed my rest of the nails with a white block and added cuticle oil .

For the color I decided to use this pearly pink color , its close to white but too white , I did one coat only allowed them to try and applied my Konad nail stamps in contrasting Easter colors . I still need more practice I think but I'm getting there . I spent a lot of time on these nails and I am hoping that they last a lot longer than my Christmas nails. I am noticing that I need to spend a little more time on blending the nails.

If anyone follows me I hope you have very Happy Easter weekend!!

I don't know what happened our what I might have done wrong , but shortly after I did my Christmas gel set they began to break. After the repair of my thumb nail on my right hand , my thumb on my left hand broke off . I putting up my pea coat and it feel on my thumb taking off the tip of my left nail. I did not have time to repair it properly so I clued it back on for a while . It irritated me that my nails were breaking , I was also begining to notice every imperfection . I noticed that where I had applied my tips gaps were beginning to show . Then I started to pick at them and ended up taking them off. I think I may have applied the extension tips incorrectly. My natural nails are extremely short and there is not a nail tip for an extension to adhere to . My other thought was I may have not built up the nail enough on the apex.

While I was out to dinner with my husband he notice that I took off all of my nails and said I was not allowed to do gel nails for a while . He gave me a six month window, He said I could paint them , but not do the gel. My nails are in bad shape right now , brittle and snagging on everything. In conducting my research of gel nails on Utube . I am talking about countless hours of me watching tons of videos for endless hours . I came across some tutorials where people have put gel on their natural nails to help grow them out. I decided to give it a try and keep my nails short , meaning not adding any type of extension. I think I tried this before , however it was prior to my apple cider vinegar treatment .

Now that I have my natural nails somewhat back and have gotten rid of that pesky fungus (Yay) I want to try to keep my nails as strong and healthy as possible , however I do like having them done once in a while and I plan on figuring out the proper way to do extensions. However for the next six months as a dare from my husband I can't do them. Life with short nails to start 2017 it is.

For this manicure I started out by doing a try manicure , pushed back cuticle and file the shine from my natural nails. I did something different this time , which I have notice in the utube videos that I watched . I cleaned my nails after filing with a wipe with nail polish remover. Nail polish remover dehydrates the nail plate , which allows products like gel and acrylic adhere better. I added the IBD bonder to my nails and cured for the required time . I then applied a thin layer of IBD builder gel in pink to my natural nail making sure that gel did not get on my skin. I cured my nails for the required time of one minute. After this cure I applied a thicker layer of gel to my natural nail , to get a good amount of gel with this product you must dip your brush in the gel pot and lift up creating a string of gel . I rotate my brush which helps create a little bit of a ball. I unload the ball in the middle of my nail and with a circular motion I disperse the gel on my natural nail and use the string technique to build out a decent looking nail . Once I am satisfied with the shape of my nail I cure my nail for the required 3 minutes .

I clean the sticky layer of gel off my nail with an alcohol wipe ( paper towel with alcohol on it) . At this point I take the 100 side of my nail file and lightly file over the nails to get rid of any ridges. I used the 180 side of my file and shape out my nail following the natural shape. I think my natural shape might be round , because that it the shape that my nails followed . after filing I clean my nails with my alcohol wipe and apply IBD intense seal and cure for the required time of 3 minutes. I then lightly buff my nails with a white block and again clean my nails with an alcohol wipe. I could leave nails clear as they look like a pair of healthy natural nails . However I love to paint my nails and add some type of fun design .

Because it is New Years Eve I decided to so something a little festive. I have this awesome glittery silver color from Sally Hansen called Guilty Party . Which I think is perfect to ring in the new year with . I than chose a festive full cover nail stamp in black pearl from my Konad nail stamp collection.

It usually takes two weeks for gel nails to grow out needing fills. We will see how these nails hold up , also I am excited to see if my theory of having gel on the bottom of regular nail polish will allow the color to last longer . For some reason I having issues with gel color and think that clear gel or natural gel colors as a base are better. If I want to change the color of my nails tomorrow I can without having to file the color off of my nail. Time for me to clean up the house now and take down all of my Christmas decorations. Happy New Years !!!
However during the festivities I broke two of my nails , the first nail broke on Saturday right before I was going to leave for my sisters Christmas Eve Party. My nailed cracked in the middle but did not come off completely. I was able to clue my nail , however I could still see the crack. By not having to go to the salon to get my nail fixed , I was able to fix my nail at home. I took out my nail kit and applied gel over my nail , however due to where the break was I determined that I must have not created a good C curve . I built up the C curve using the drag method, I dipped the brush into the gel and laid the string of gel over the nails and built up the nail. I cured it for the required three minutes . The nail came out very smooth , so I buffed the nail , cleaned it and painted it . Fixed my nail with in five minutes , you can not tell that it was ever broken.

While cleaning up after the aftermath of Christmas dinner I broke my thumb nail . Again I was able to fix my nail at home in less than ten minutes . I repeated the gel application again, however due to how the nail broke I had to redo the complete nail . Having everything at home and on hand made repairing the nails so easy and of course because I didn't have to go the salon and pay to repair my nail I saved money and time.

My nails are complete again and so far I have not had any problems , however its only been a day . I determined that the problem could have been that I did not build up the nail correctly and create the C curve I have looked at all nails and I see that they now appear to have pretty good C curves , so we will see how the hold up further.

I tried to sculpt my nails but my nails are too short and it was a complete fail. For my Christmas Nails I decided to add tips to give a little length and add a little structure.

Since I just had surgery and didn't wanted to work to hard , I used my electric drill with a coarse file . I started with pushing my cuticles back and lightly filed my nails with my electric file. I then cleaned my nails with paper towel with alcohol on it. I sized the nail tips and clued them to my nails. I cut my nails down to a preferred length ( I like to keep them short as I can't do anything with them when they are long). I filed the nails with my electric file to blend the tips to my natural nail bed. Then I took a regular nail file with 180 /100 grit side and shaped my nails into a nice square shape and cleaned them with an alcohol wipe.

Next I did the gel application. I used IBD builder gel in pink. To begin the gel application process I applied IBD Bonder to my nails and cured for one minute under a UV Lamp. Then I applied a thin layer of IBD builder gel and cured for one minute under the UV Lamp. I dipped my gel brush in the builder gel and picked up a nice amount of gel . I applied a thicker amount of gel to the middle of my nail bed and worked the gel from my cuticle to the free edge. I kept the gel thin close to my cuticle and thicker towards the free edge. Once you have a nice C curve and are satisfied with your nail you can cure for three minutes. After curing for three minutes I wiped off the dispersion layer (stictky layer) with an alcohol wipe. I took my nail file and filed the sides and free edge of my nail keeping the sides slightly rounded. I than took my electric drill and used a lighter drill to smooth out the nail. I then took a white buffer and buffed my nails , then applied IBD Intense seal to the nails and cured for three minutes. After curing for three minutes I took my nails out of the UV Lamp , there was no need to wipe off a dispersion layer as IBD intense seal is a UV top coat.

After the gel application process I add cuticle oil to all of my nails and massage the oil into my cuticle . I wipe my nails with a clean paper towel and chose my nail color. Because it is Christmas I decided to use a nice classy red color and a festive green. I love Sally Hansen nail color and decided to use Bordeaux Glow and Combusteable for my colors . I used Combusteable on my accent finer and used Bordeaux Glow on the other four nails. I then decided to add a fun full cover nail stamp to the accent finger using Konad nail art stamps with silver stamping polish . I finished the nails with Sally Hansen top coat .

I don't really like to use gel nail polish as you have to file your nails to remove it or soak your nail in nail polish remover damaging your nail bed. Using regular nail polish allows you change your color as often as you like , and having the gel overlay on the bottom of the polish allows the color to last longer with less chipping from my experience. I have been doing my nails for years now and never had my nail color chip. Lets see how long these last , I am hoping that I finally learned how to do them correctly. I will be back to do a new years design if I have time next week. Merry Christmas !!!
Happy Mother's Day Everyone ! I did this manicure last night , I am trying to grow out my nails , but it doesn't seem to be working . I notice when I do my nails than my natural nails grow. When I don't have them done they grow out , but the are split and chip and end up breaking . For this manicure , I put tips and cut them really short , I used IBD builder gel , and Sally Hansen polish in some gold color , I can't remember the name of the color . I decided to use my Konad stamps , I chose some cool little flowers that kind of look like stars ! Because all Mom's are Stars !

Decided to do something different and new . I went with an oval shape . I used nail tips to add length and instead of using regular IBD builder gel , I used IBD Intense seal. We'll see how they hold up , so far so good.

The intense seal was a lot easier to use instead of the regular builder gel and it was less messy. also I did not have to file my nails as much . I add the tips filed them until they were even with my nails , then dusted them off and polished on the intense seal . I dried my nails under the UV light for three minutes . They came out completely dry , then I buffed them with a white block , applied cuticle oil and polished them . It was so easy .

They are not as think as normal gel nails , they have more of a natural look if that is what you are looking to do. They feel pretty strong and secure. If this works I may never do regular builder gel again. My whole goal is to grow my nails and keep them protected . I am hoping that the intense seal doesn't crack or anything , we shall see. I always use the Intense seal over my regular gel manicures and have never had a problem. I had to add a flower for a spring design from my Konad nail stamp collection.

So I broke a nail while cleaning my bathroom . However I did not mess up my nails with my previous gel manicure. I decided to keep my nails short and natural , as it is easier for me to do stuff . I put clear gel on my nails and then used a Silver nail polish as the base and did full nail stamp on my finger next to my pinky and a candy cane stamp on my middle finger. I think I may just keep my nails short , as it a lot easier to do stuff without worrying about breaking a nail, it is also a lot easier to type and use my phone . I am so happy that I have my natural nails back and that I am able to paint them and decorate them . Mary Annhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11216184593960226197noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6241039136403190561.post-59340031705944859812015-11-21T20:08:00.001-08:002015-11-21T20:08:04.913-08:00<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">The Apple Cider vinegar worked!!!
Its been forever , I stopped doing my nails , my husband has band me from doing my nails and insisted that I soak them in vinigar. I soaked my nails for a couple of night and guess what my infected nails cleared up and are started to grow . I can actually show my nails without being ashamed. They still have a little more to grow and I can't wait for them to grow so that I can paint them and decorate them with my Konad stamps ! <span style="color: #990000; font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Happy Thanksgiving everyone ,

I am thankful for my family , my adorable little boys , my husband , my friends , my job , and for having a PPO and being able to see a dermatologist and getting my natural nails back , and for all those wonderful people on u tube who posted demonstrations on how to apply gel nails.

I stated in my last post that I had went back to the salon to continue getting my nails done , but two of my nails , my thumb and the finger next to my pinky have super short nails , and all of my nails were growing except them.

After going to the salon and having a not so great experience ,the nails on the fingers with short nails got water under them and turned Green !!!! After removing the nails and soaking them in apple cider vinegar until they cleared up. Even though they cleared up and began growing I could not leave them alone, they kept breaking . I had to do them again.

I made an agreement with my husband , that I would do them when the boys are fast a sleep . I did my first set and it did not take as long as it usually does and the nails came out good . I just finished a fill and the nails that were remaining short have started to grown again without any green fungus , but with a clear nail !

I am super excited to be doing my nails again , I feel that this time around they are going to get better , I can't wait to start stocking up on polishes , to start stamping and creating designs on my nails again.

I got my natural nails back after seeing the dermatologist . All of my nails grew back clear and normal except two .... my thumb and my finger next to my pinkie have supper short nails . I went to the salon for a while and I got a fungus on both nails because water got into the nails .

I was able to get rid of the fungus and decided to do my nails again. I used IBD gel for these nails and I must say it was a lot easier than before , I think they came out pretty good . I can't wait to stamp them with my konad stamps again !Mary Annhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11216184593960226197noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6241039136403190561.post-61994005227533500432012-03-23T21:31:00.003-07:002012-03-23T21:34:46.970-07:00Easter nails

My new Easter manicure .
